Schizophrenia is a mental disorder that affects approximately 1% of the population. It can be difficult to diagnose, but there are 13 signs that you should watch out for! -People with schizophrenia often have delusions or hallucinations. They may see, feel, smell, hear, and taste things that aren’t real (hallucinations) – sometimes the hallucinations are of people who they know but can’t actually be seen by others. The person might believe in something that isn’t true even when everyone says it isn’t so (delusion). For example: a client might think there is an alien living on their arm giving them messages for space travel while other clients may believe aliens want to kill them due to how weak they were as children. -Speaking about what you’re thinking without knowing where those thoughts came from; this is called “word salad.” It’s not unusual to have thoughts about things that you know nothing about. But when these thoughts come out of nowhere, it can be a sign of schizophrenia. -Suspiciousness and paranoia are common signs, which is why people with schizophrenia often don’t trust anyone except for themselves. They may believe the TV talking on its own or think their boss doesn’t like them because they didn’t get an invitation to his daughter’s wedding last year; such thinking would not cross most other people’s minds in this way though! -People suffering from hallucinations might also experience auditory or tactile hallucinations where they feel as if someone has touched them but no one really did, or hear voices telling them what to do.
