The fact is that the majority of our thoughts and actions are on autopilot. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing either. Our habits, routines, impulses, and reactions carry us through our lives so we don’t have to stop and think about it every time we wipe our ass or start a car.

This is a good point. The problem is when we’re on autopilot for so long that we forget we’re on autopilot. Because when we’re not even aware of our own habits, routines, impulses, and reactions, then we no longer control them they control us.

I can’t get enough of it.

I don’t know about you but I have been thinking for a while about the idea of a “self-aware” person or group. I think it’s a great idea. And I’ve done a lot of reading on it. But I’m just not sure how it would work. It probably wouldn’t be very efficient. But then again, I don’t have a clue how to do anything else.

In general, we would probably want to be able to exert some control over our thoughts, habits, routine, and impulses, which would be a great skill to have. But I think that wouldn’t be a part of our full self awareness. We’re not aware of how many thoughts are running concurrently with us. We don’t even know if there is one thought at all. We’re also unable to regulate our impulses. We can’t change our routine.

Maybe I could also add some insight into what it is that we do. I know, I know, we do a lot of things that make a person do so much more because they are trying to control what we do. For instance, I want to be able to control my impulses by telling people not to run after each other. I don’t want to be involved in any of that in a way that makes me feel like I’m getting on my own.
