I know that many of my readers have some level of self-awareness, so I am starting with where I am in the self-awareness spectrum.
1. Awareness.
So my awareness is pretty high, because I am aware of myself and my surroundings. I am not aware of all the things around me, but I know what I do and don’t want to do, and what I can and can’t do. (This is usually the opposite of the self-awareness scale, which measures our ability to control our mental states.
I could be a lot more aware of myself. I know my personality, my habits. I know what I like, what I don’t like, what I am and am not comfortable with. Most importantly, I know my likes and dislikes.
The difference is that the self-awareness scale is about what you want to be aware of.
Myself? Well, I know that I like to play video games, I know that I like to watch movies, I know that I like to eat pizza, I know that I like to write, and I know that I like to cook. I don’t actually care about these things. I just know them. This is probably why I don’t enjoy watching TV shows or movies, since I know the characters are just going to change.
Well, there’s an even bigger difference between having the self-awareness scale and being aware of the things you want to be aware of. I know that I like to have a great time while watching movies, I know that I like to eat pizza while watching movies, etc. I dont really care about them.
Yes, you can have a great time while watching movies, pizza, and all other things that you care about. But none of that is true about knowing what you want to be aware of.
